Fool Chapter 9

NINE Drudge AND TROUBLE So how can it be that we are going to Great Birnam Wood to search for witches?† asked Kent as we advanced over the field. There was just a slight breeze yet it was grisly cool, what with the fog and the melancholy and my sadness over King Jeff. I pulled my woolen cape around me. â€Å"Bloody Scotland,† said I. â€Å"Albany is potentially the darkest, dampest, coldest wicked hole in the entirety of Blighty. Sodding Scots.† â€Å"Witches?† reminded Kent. â€Å"Because the wicked phantom disclosed to me I'd discover my answers here.† â€Å"Ghost?† â€Å"The young lady apparition at the White Tower, keep up, Kent. Rhymes and conundrums and such.† I let him know of the â€Å"grave offense to girls three† and the â€Å"madman ascending to lead the blind.† Kent gestured as though he comprehended. â€Å"And I'm along because†¦Ã¢â‚¬ â€Å"Because it is dull and I am small.† â€Å"You may have solicited Curan or one from the others. I'm hesitant about witches.† â€Å"Nonsense. They're much the same as doctors, just without the dying. Nothing to fear.† â€Å"In the day, when Lear was as yet Christian, we didn't do well by witches. I've had a cartload of condemnations cast on me.† â€Å"Not powerful, however, right? You're kid shockingly old and still solid as a bull.† â€Å"I am exiled, poverty stricken, and live under the danger of endless supply of my name.† â€Å"Oh, valid statement. Valiant of you to come, then.† â€Å"Aye, much obliged, fellow, however I'm not feeling it. What's that light?† There was a fire ahead in the wood, and figures moving around it. â€Å"Stealthy, presently, great Kent. Let us creep up quietly and see what is to be seen before uncovering ourselves. Presently, creep, Kent, you slamming extraordinary bull, creep.† Also, with yet two stages my system uncovered its blemish. â€Å"You're jingling like a coin handbag had of fits,† said Kent. â€Å"You couldn't crawl up on the hard of hearing nor dead. Quietness your ridiculous ringers, Pocket.† I put my fob on the ground. â€Å"I can leave my cap, yet I'll not remove my shoes †we'll give up all secrecy in case I'm shouting from trodding delicate footed across reptiles, thistles, hedgehogs, and the lot.† â€Å"Here, then,† said Kent, pulling the remaining parts of the pork shoulder from his bag. â€Å"Dampen your chimes with the fat.† I raised an eyebrow curiously †an overlooked and excessively unobtrusive motion in obscurity †at that point shrugged and started working the suet into the chimes at my toes and lower legs. â€Å"There!† I hurried up to the delightful sound of nothing by any stretch of the imagination. â€Å"Forward!† Creep we did, until we were simply outside the radiance of firelight. Three bowed supported witches were strolling a moderate hover around a huge cauldron, dropping in turned bits of various things as they recited. â€Å"Double, twofold, work and inconvenience: Fire consume, and cauldron bubble.† â€Å"Witches,† murmured Kent, paying tribute to the lord of everything grisly screwing self-evident. â€Å"Aye,† said I, in lieu of clouting him. (Jones remained behind to watch my cap.) â€Å"Eye of newt and toe of frog, Fleece of bat and tongue of pooch, Viper's fork and visually impaired worm's sting, Reptile's leg and owlet's wing, For an appeal of ground-breaking inconvenience, Like a hellfire stock bubble and bubble.† They twofold percolated the theme and we were preparing ourselves for another section of the formula when I felt something brush against my leg. It was everything I could don't to shout out. I felt Kent's hand on my shoulder. â€Å"Steady, chap, it's only a cat.† Another brush, and a whimper. Two of them currently, licking my ringers, and murmuring. (It sounds more wonderful than it was.) â€Å"It's the ridiculous pork fat,† I murmured. A third catlike joined the group. I remained on one foot, attempting to hold the other over their heads, yet while I am a cultivated trapeze artist, the craft of levitation despite everything evades me; therefore my ground-bound foot turned into my Achilles' impact point, in a manner of speaking. One of the devils sank its teeth into my lower leg. â€Å"Fuckstockings!† said I, to some degree decidedly. I jumped, I spun, I offered trashing comments toward all animals of the catlike perspective. Murmuring and yowling resulted. When finally the felines withdrew, I was sitting spread legged by the fire, Kent remained close to me with his blade drawn and prepared, and the three witches remained in positions over the cauldron from us. â€Å"Back, witches!† said Kent. â€Å"You may revile me into an amphibian, however they'll be the final words out of your mouths while your heads are attached.† â€Å"Witches?† said the principal witch, who was greenest of the three. â€Å"What witches? We are nevertheless modest washerwomen, advancing in the wood.† â€Å"Rendering clothing administration, humble and good,† said witch two, the tallest. â€Å"All it be, is as it should,† said witch three, who had a mischievous mole over her correct eye. â€Å"By Hecate's[27] night-tarred areolas, stop rhyming!† said I. â€Å"If you're not witches, what was that revile you were gurgling about?† â€Å"Stew,† said Warty. â€Å"Stew, stew most true,† said Tall. â€Å"Stew most blue,† said Green. â€Å"It's not blue,† said Kent, glancing in the cauldron. â€Å"More of a brown.† â€Å"I know,† said Green, â€Å"but earthy colored doesn't rhyme, does it, love?† â€Å"I'm searching for witches,† said I. â€Å"Really?† said Tall. â€Å"I was sent by a ghost.† The witches took a gander at each other, at that point back at me. â€Å"Ghost instructed you to bring your clothing here, did it?† said Warty. â€Å"You're not washerwomen! You're wicked witches! Furthermore, that is not stew, and the grisly phantom of the bleeding White Tower said to look for you here for answers, so would we be able to get about it, ye twisted bunches of erect vomitus?† â€Å"Ah, we're frogs without a doubt now,† moaned Kent. â€Å"Always a grisly phantom, innit?† said Tall. â€Å"What did she look like?† asked Green. â€Å"Who? The phantom? I didn't state it was a she †â€Å" â€Å"What did she resemble, fool?† growled Warty. â€Å"I assume I will spend my days eating bugs and covering up under leaves until some hag drops me in a cauldron,† considered Kent, inclining toward his blade currently, watching moths dart into the fire. â€Å"She was spooky pale,† said I, â€Å"all in white †vaporous, with reasonable hair and †â€Å" â€Å"She was fit,[28] though?† asked Tall. â€Å"Lovely, you may even say?† â€Å"Bit more straightforward than I care for in my vixens, yet yes, she was fit.† â€Å"Aye,† said Warty, looking to the others, who crouched with her. At the point when they came up, Green stated, â€Å"State your business, at that point, fool. For what reason did the phantom send you here?† â€Å"She said you could support me. I am dolt to the court of King Lear of Britain. He has sent away his most youthful little girl, Cordelia, of whom I am to some degree affectionate; he's given my student fool, Drool, to that villain knave Edmund of Gloucester, and my companion Taster has been harmed and is very dead.† â€Å"And remember that they're going to hang you at dawn,† included Kent. â€Å"Don't fret about that, ladies,† said I. â€Å"About to be hanged is my business as usual, not a condition that requires your repair.† The witches clustered once more. There was a lot of murmuring and a touch of murmuring. They broke their meeting and Warty, who was the evident coven pioneer, stated, â€Å"That Lear's an awful bit of work.† â€Å"Last time he went Christian a score of witches were drowned,† said Tall. Kent gestured, and saw his shoes. â€Å"The Petite Inquisition †not a high point.† â€Å"Aye, we were 10 years spelling them all back to life for the revenge,† said Warty. â€Å"Rosemary here still leaks lake water from the ears on moist days,† said Tall. â€Å"Aye, and carps ate my little toes while I was lake bottom,† said Green. â€Å"Her toes in this way gefilted,[29] we needed to look for a captivated lynx and take two of his for replacement.† Rosemary (who was Green) gestured gravely. â€Å"Goes through shoes in a fortnight, yet there's no better witch to pursue a squirrel up a tree,† said Tall. â€Å"That's true,† said Rosemary. â€Å"Beats the burnings, though,† said Warty. â€Å"Aye, that is true,† said Tall. â€Å"No measure of feline toes'll fix you on the off chance that you've every one of your bits consumed off. Lear had him a few burnings as well.† â€Å"I'm not here in the interest of Lear,† said I. â€Å"I'm here to address the frenzy he's done.† â€Å"Well, for what reason didn't you say so?† said Rosemary. â€Å"We're consistently excited about sending a touch of the anarchy Lear's way,† said Warty. â€Å"Shall we revile him with leprosy?† â€Å"By your leave, women, I don't wish the elderly person's demise, just the fixing of his deeds.† â€Å"A basic revile would be easier,† said Tall. â€Å"A bit o' bat drool in the cauldron and we can make them stroll on duck feet before breakfast. Make him quack, as well, in the event that you've a pushing or a newly choked baby for the service.† â€Å"I simply need my companions and my home back,† said I. â€Å"Well, on the off chance that you can't be convinced, let us have a consult,† said Rosemary. â€Å"Parsley, Sage, a moment?† She waved different witches over to an old oak where they murmured. â€Å"Parsley, Sage, and Rosemary?† said Kent. â€Å"What, no Thyme?† Rosemary wheeled on him. â€Å"Oh, we've the time on the off chance that you've the tendency, handsome.† â€Å"Jolly great show, hag!† said I. I enjoyed these hags, they had a fine-edged mind. Rosemary moved her great eye at the lord, lifted her skirts, pointed her wilted base

1984 And Lord Of The Flies - 1758 Words

Humans have basic needs which include food, water, and shelter. They also have base emotions and instincts, which are the very things that create humanity. However, these needs and emotions are easily manipulated, a theme prevalent in George Orwell’s 1984 and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. While these two stories have dissimilar plots, they have one common theme; the destruction of the individual through manipulation. The use of fear and hunger, in both 1984 and Lord of the Flies helps each government to eliminate the individual; in turn creating a mob mentality and a future in which no individuality can survive. The boys on the island can either starve or join Jack, and the citizens of Oceania have n o energy to even consider a rebellion. The manipulation of a very basic human need, hunger, allows the governments of the island and Oceania to force the individual into submission to the group because there is no other option. Another aspect of humanity that both Jack and the Party manipulate is the emotion of fear. For example, in Lord of the Flies, Jack uses the â€Å"beast† to scare the younger children into the false security he seems to provide. To the small children, Jack is brave, however they are oblivious to the fact that he is manipulating their fear. There is no real beast, however by convincing the children that the beast is real, Jack can control them. Golding writes, â€Å"â€Å"I gave you food,† said Jack, â€Å"and my hunters will protect you from the beast. Who will join my tribe?†Ã¢â‚¬ (150). He offers this protection against the supposed beast, in order to entice the younger children to follow him, rather than follow reason. The Party enacts a similar principal to hold control over its citizens. Its constant surveillance of the citizens, who never truly know when they are being watched or heard, keeps them in fear of doing anything wrong against the Party. Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1682 Downloads: 4 Date added: 2019/10/10 Did you like this example? Introduction By investigating the Canada Regional Geography, it is evident that the country is dominated by various regions which present the economic, the physical outlook, and the cultural diversity of the nation. From a periphery dimension, this paper aims to explore Ontario as the specific region in Canada (Bone, 2005). The paper provides an in-depth analysis of Ontario by looking at the physical as well as human features which prevail, and it incorporates the economic activities which matter for the prosperity of Ontario in the future. Economic Activities By describing the dominant economic activities in Ontario, the region focuses on the manufacturing, mining, forestry, and agriculture. However, manufacturing is the most dominant of all economic activities which prevail since Ontario is the leading province in the manufacturing of products. It estimates 46% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product from the statistics which were obtained in 2014 (Bone, 2005). Ontario has been successful in manufacturing due to its positioning on the Canada as seen on the map below. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Regional Canadian Geograpahy" essay for you Create order The map shows that Ontario has a favorable climate which allows manufacturing to be successful in the region. Natural Resources In exploring the main natural resources in Ontario, it is evident that Ontario produces a variety of natural resources. The natural resources in Ontario include the Forest Industry which contains about eighty-five billion trees, and it provides the nation with an estimate of 14 billion dollars. Another resource is the fishing, which is done commercially in Ontario. The region has Great Lakes which are recognized to have various varieties of fish and the fishing regions make 80% of the fishing industry in the country (Steed Brewis,  1971). The Oil and Gas resources provide power within the region. Finally, the renewable energy which includes the solar panels, turbines, biogas, and biomass dominate the region. Population Density The Ontario’s population density is concentrated as seen in the graph below. From the graph, the population of the province which was enumerated in 2011 was 12,851,821 which clarifies the region is concentrated and it entails almost 60% of the nation’s population. The region has a population density of 14.1 individuals in every square kilometer. Clearly, 80% of the people in Canada live in the urban areas. Evidence for the Population Density The Report provided by the Chief Public Health Officer in 2014 provides evidence that Ontario has been experiencing and increase in population hence impacts the Canadian public health. Clearly, the population has increased since 2001 due to the increased immigration. Most of the immigrants came to the region during the years they were in employment. At the same time, the fertility rate in the nation has as well increased hence the population experiences change. The graph below shows evidence how the population has changed in Ontario since 2001 by age. Clearly, the graph shows there was a population increase as outlined in the paper. Growth Occurring in the Region Growth is occurring to various increases in the population by different ages in Ontario from the evidence provided by the report of the Public Health Officer. To begin with, a low growth rate is experienced by 16.2% which represents 2.3 individuals and is expected to rise to 16.3 million people in the future ((Steed Brewis,  1971). At the same time, high growth in the population is occurring by 45.6%. In addition, many individuals in Ontario live in the urban areas hence the rural areas are sparsely populated. Reasons for the Population Increases In reference to the pattern of growth rate in population increases outlined, they occur due to various reasons. To begin with, the population projected due to the high rate of immigration which occurred in Ontario especially for individuals who were in the employment. Second, the fertility rate as well increased causing the population increases (Robinson,  1981). The medium growth projected due to the changes experienced in the economy of the region. Core areas and the Peripheral areas The urban areas can be viewed as the core areas which experience growth. These core areas in Ontario develop in regard to the geographic qualities. In addition, the transport and the communication networks are enhanced. These areas are also endowed with abundant resources, and there is good access to the markets and the population centers due to a large number of people living in the urban areas in Ontario (Robinson,  1981). Some of the urban areas are rooted since there are the administrative strategies and the political decisions which impact the growth. On the other hand, the rural areas are the peripheral areas in Ontario. The core and the peripheral areas contrast since the peripheral areas in Ontario are less populated hence they experience a low growth rate. They are less developed and also there is an uneven access and also uneven distribution of the resources. The growth rate of Ontario’s economy The economy of Ontario is rapidly growing as a result of its unique innovation, manufacturing expertise, resources, and exports. The Ontario region generates 37 percent of Canada’s GDP (Tedds, 2005). Also, half of all the workers in finance, high tech, and manufacturing come from the region.   The rapid growth of the region’s economy can be attributed to the manufacturing industries which include biotech, autos, pharmaceuticals, information technologies and medical equipment. In 2011, the region’s manufacturing industries shipped goods worth 258 billion (Painter, 2006). Moreover, Ontario is ranked after Texas and California in terms of the number of workers in the manufacturing industries. In terms of agriculture, the region has the biggest and best quality farms in Canada. Approximately, Ontario has more than 51, 950 farms and constitute a quarter of all the agricultural revenues generated in Canada. The forests in Ontario also contribute to the growth of the region’s economy by providing approximately 53,000 jobs. Faultline in Ontario Robert Bones identified various fault lines which include the French and the English division of languages, the Aboriginal, and the non-aboriginal discourse, and finally the centralist and the decentralist fault line (Bone, 2005). This paper explores the centralist and the decentralist fault lines which have been a great challenge in Ontario as well as in the entire country since it bases with the Canadian size. By investigating the schools of thought, the centralist refers to an individual who facilitates control, strength, and power in Ontario while the decentralist refers to the individual who seeks to reinforce power in the region(Bone, 2005). Currently, the fault line is active hence the nation aims to provide protection to the manufacturing industries to ensure they are not impacted by the foreign products. The fault line will remain active for the next ten years since the Canadian economy bases on the experts of the many products which include the timber and the minerals. Ther efore, the high tariffs will be used to convince other nations to buy the Canadian products. Challenges likely to face the people of Ontario Despite the rapid economic growth, there are great challenges that are likely to face the people of Ontario in the coming ten years. Mainly, these challenges are social, economic, and demographic. Ontario is likely to hit a high level of unemployment in the next ten years. At the moment, there is a high number of college graduates who are struggling to find jobs in the region. A recent report from StatsCan indicated that the level of unemployment of people below the age of 24 has risen to 16.4 percent (Anderson, Dana, Dana, 2006). Also, other recent documentations show that there is an increase in homelessness rates in some Ontario cities which include Kitchener, Sudbury, Brampton, Ottawa, and Hamilton. In the next ten years, the condition could even worsen is drastic measures are not taken. How to overcome the challenges Actually, the above challenges can be prevented. If the mass unemployment in the region is not dealt with, it could lead to some profound political and social implications. One way to reduce unemployment levels in the region is by creating part-time jobs. Part-time employees work for not more than 35 hours per week. In Asian nations, these programs have achieved tremendous success.   In Korea, there are 623,000 people working part-time. These programs would also work in Ontario. The youths should also be trained and equipped with relevant technologies which will enable them to acquire new jobs in emerging industries.   By creating employment for the people in the region, the problem of homelessness will also be solved. The economy of Ontario is growing rapidly. However, the coming years may be disastrous for the people of the region if new job opportunities are not created. Ontario is considered as Canada’s economic base for two major reasons. To begin with, Ontario has a good resource base. For instance, the province generates hydroelectricity, and hence the industries in the region can access cheap energy (Anderson, Dana, Dana, 2006). Geographically, the location of the province is relative compared to other United States markets. In conclusion, Ontario might face significant challenges in the next ten years which regard the economy due to the rapid of immigration taking place in Canada. By investigating various incidences, it is clear that the country is clingy to the poor infrastructure as well as the mobility patterns due to the global immigration. Immigration may have positivity, but significantly, the economy will be compromised since the government will experience challenges in reshaping the economy for the increasing number of persons into the nation. This challenge is paramount to the people in Ontario since the indigenous people are still experiencing the challenges in accessing the transportation such as the roads and the rail as well as there is the decline in the labor market due to the immigration. Basing on the economic report of Ontario, the more the populations increase the number of the skilled individuals decrease in the labor market. The economic challenge in Ontario can be overcome through various ways. To begin with, the high costs of electricity experienced in this region need to be addressed. The reforms need to be supported to ensure the skilled trades are promoted to ensure the integration of the immigrants into employment is fixed. Finally, the system of health care needs to be checked so that it can meet the needs of the immigrants and the aging population.

Definition of Problem: The problem faced by Deloitte Touche is how to best manage the merger with Andersen in order to move beyond being two merged organizations into a unified, market-leading organization. CompareContrast Van Gogh and Chagall Essay Example For Students

Compare?Contrast Van Gogh and Chagall Essay Compacter/Contrast Van Gogh and Chloral For this essay, I chose to compare and contrast Vincent van Sagos Starry Night with Marc Chlorals l and the Village. The two pieces are lovely and most interesting to evaluate in relationship to one another. I personally love both artists and upon closely examining these famous pieces, I have noticed how similar yet different these works of art are. Vincent van Gogh was a deeply troubled, post-impressionist artist and his painting Starry Night is his most famous piece. Working from memory, he painted the oil on canvas passing the time in Saint-Remy-De-Provence located in outworn France while undergoing treatment in an insane asylum. The piece is very energetic with eleven fireball yellow stars like connect-the-dots across the big swirls, rolling blue and grey clouds in the night sky. There is a large orange, yellow crescent moon in the upper right corner offset by a tall, spiraling, deep green cypress tree in the lower left area. The pulsating sky contrasted against the little houses and the central figure of the church below, obliviously sleeping with their quiet muted colors, may be conveying that Vincent was feeling unheard and misunderstood by the tizzies of the village as well as the institution of the church; the thickly applied paint portrays this emotional intensity. The painting was done in 1898 inspired by the landscape of the asylum grounds outside his window. It is an oil on canvas and is located at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Marc Chlorals and l and the Village is a highly imaginative, modern piece that illustrates his native Jewish village from his childhood in Russia. In the dreamy painting, there is a clearly conveyed interdependent community of peasants, animals and plants and is a imposition of beautifully blended circles and triangular shapes inspired by cubism. The colors are very vibrant and a considerable contrast exists between the reds, blues and greens. l and the Village integrates folk culture both Jewish and Russian and is very emotionally charged. There is a dream-like representation of an upside down violinist that brings Fiddler on the Roof to my mind. There is also a farmer with a scythe, pastures and a goat being milked. The two central figures are a large goat gazing into the eyes of a big green man with a cap on his head and a cross round his neck and a triangular tree in his hand that I personally believe represents the tree of life from The Bible. The painting most definitely possesses a significant amount of symbolism. The different sized circles are said to represent the earths revolution around the sun and the moons revolution around the earth. The circular structure in the lower left corner is widely interpreted to be a solar eclipse. The oil on canvas painting measures 75 inches by 59 inches, is his most famous work and is housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Both paintings depict unit little villages beneath a night sky and convey a sense of harmony. They both contain celestial bodies and are both done in mostly green and blue. Both are comprised of organic and geometric shapes and contain religious symbolism in the form of churches and Chlorals green man has a cross around his neck, but the greatest similarity I see about the two paintings is a swirling playfulness from Van Sagos exaggerated stars and clouds to Chlorals up-side-down musician and houses. I like the free license of post impressionism and modernism that allows the artists to envoy their personal perspectives anyway that they would like. Both paintings are housed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 , .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .postImageUrl , .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 , .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:hover , .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:visited , .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:active { border:0!important; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:active , .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19 .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3206b5bda9cb35043ee1cea5358bcd19:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Africa The New World - Compare Contrast EssayMarc Chloral and Vincent van Gogh are really quite different. They are from two different time periods, Chloral being a modernist and van Gogh a post-impressionist. They also have different cultural backgrounds. Marc Chloral was most emphatically a Jewish artist and he was Russian born. Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter who was called to be a Christian evangelist at one time. The two paintings differ in that Chlorals forms are ore geometrical, giving the impression of precision while Van Sagos figures are much more organic in nature containing lots of bright, swirls spirals. L and the Village is composed of blue, green, whi te and red colors while Van Sagos Starry Night contains blue, green, white and yellow. As this essay draws to a close, I can honestly say that it has been most educational. Now that I know a lot more about Vincent van Gogh and Marc Chloral, I am experiencing a heightened interest in studying their life histories and other works of art. I loved both pieces and feel a new relatedness to them.

On My First Sonne Essays

On My First Sonne Essays On My First Sonne Essay On My First Sonne Essay In the poems On My First Sonne, The Affliction of Margaret, Catrin and Follower, the parents are presented differently and yet all similar in some ways. In On My First Sonne, the poet -or the parent- conveys his love in an unusual way. He sees the sine of loving his son too much as the cause of his sons death, and as a punishment, he has to repay him back to God because to Jonson, his son is only a loan. To a modern audience, it may seem a little harsh. However, it would be the norm in the 1600s, when the society was deeply religious and losing a child was a common thing. Despite this, the poet considers his son his right hand and his best piece of poetrie, both of which are metaphors of his son. This shows us that his son was of a great worth, and Jonson has simply learnt that why will man lament the state he should envie? Comparatively, the mother in The Affliction of Margaret conveys her love through anxiety and the desperate hope for her son to return. The mother does not care if her son is humbled, poor or hopeless of honour; after seven years without contact, she just wants him home. Her anxiety can be shown in the first half of the poem, where she is irrational with her thoughts. There are wild speculations of where her son might be, ranging from a dungeon to a desert. This wild imagination of the mothers is further empathised by the alliteration of maimed, mangled. Furthermore, out of the 11 7-line stanzas, 6 contained words ending with an exclamation mark, for example Alas! and Neglect me! This gives the readers an impression that the mother is on edge and almost in paranoia much in contrast with the fathers calm and almost joyous reaction in On My First Sonne. In Catrin, this time we see a mother in conflict with her daughter. In the first stanza, the poet is writing from memory and the repetition of I can remember you suggest that it is a very strong memory. The poet was already at a fierce confrontation with her daughter even before she was born, which is a presetting for their conflict later on. Tight red rope, wild and shouted creates a striking image of conflict and chaos, although through tender, we can also see the affection of the mother for her daughter. The tight red rope is a metaphor for the umbilical cord which ties mother and daughter together. This metaphor is repeated in the second stanza as that old rope, suggesting that although they are separated physically after birth, there is still an invisible bond that ties them together. The clear gap between the two stanzas shows this separation, and it also indicates the past from the present. Although they are at conflict with each other, the mother is torn between love and host ility. She conveys love in the same way as the mother in The Affliction of Margaret through worry, as her daughter asks to skate in the dark for one more hour. Similarly, the father in Follower also shares a complicated relationship with his son, although not necessarily conflict. At the start of the poem, his shoulders globed like a full sail strung and an expert shows the Heaneys clear respect and admiration of his father, which caused him to follow his father both literally and metaphorically. Heaney uses technical terms such as wing, sock and head rig, which suggested that he did, or wanted to, follow his father in terms of family tradition. However, now his father is the one who keeps stumbling behind him, being the nuisance that he once was. Through the tone of the last stanza of the poem, it suggests vaguely that Heaney feels some resentment and a little pity for his father, and also some guilt at not being able to live up to his fathers example. This is perhaps similar to what the mother speculates in The Affliction of Margaret about the thoughts of her son. Effectively, their roles are now reversed. One thing that is common with The Affliction of Margaret and Follower is the formality of the tone of which the parent writes about their child. This can be shown through the way which the poems are similarly structured: both poems have a set number of lines within each stanza, and each line mostly ends with punctuation. When structure this way, the poem gives off a very rigid and organised feel, which in turn sounds formal. On My First Sonne and Catrin, however, is similar to the previous two in terms of the overall tone of the poem, but different in structure. On My First Sonne is written like an inscription on a tombstone, shown by here doth lye. Catrin is different because its irregular line endings and stanzas is also a symbol of conflict between parent and child, which the other three poems structure does not symbolise. However different the parents in all four poems may be, they all love their children, and are saddened when the children no longer has dependency on the parents.

Infectious diseases among inmate populations Essay

Infectious diseases among inmate populations - Essay Example As this problem escalates, the monetary costs to society continues to rise and are much greater than if the diseases were discovered and treated at an earlier time, in the prison system prior to release. Prisons are in a unique position to treat inmates while the infectious condition is still in its earliest stages thus ultimately less costly to taxpayers. Though considerable economic, logistical and political barriers must be overcome to genuinely improve health care in the prison system, there are methods by which to begin solving this worsening health crisis in the prisons and wider community. The U.S. prison system has undergone a transformation over the past quarter century as a result of and a response to extensive studies that have been conducted to determine the consequences of the rising inmate population. In just 20 years, the number of persons held in U.S. prisons jumped substantially. The nation’s ‘war on drugs’ included mandatory sentencing guidelines which were principally responsible for the increase of 216,000 total prisoners in 1974 to 2004’s figure of 1.4 million. During this period, in just a 10-year span, the percentage of prisoners convicted of drug offenses nearly tripled. â€Å"In 1985, only 38,900, 8.6 percent, of State prison inmates were serving time for drug offenses as their most serious crime committed. By 1995, that number had increased almost six-fold to 224,900, 22.7 percent of all inmates† (Skolnik, 1994). Today, the U.S. houses nearly two million inmates. In 1978, the number of persons in the entire penal sy stem, those in prisons, jails and on probation or parole totaled 1.5 million. In 2004 this number stood at almost seven million. The overall correctional population, including persons in prison, jail, and on parole and probation, has jumped from 1.5 million in 1978 to nearly 7 million in 2004 (â€Å"Ethical†, 2006). Research paper solar power Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Solar power - Research Paper Example With man’s development and innovation, the sun has also become an energy source. Solar power is basically the power provided by the sun’s rays in the form of electricity or heat (Clean Energy Ideas, n.d.). Solar power has been considered a renewable form of energy compared to fossil fuels because the source, which is the sun, is basically present all the time. It is not likely to happen that the sun will burn out one day, or if it does, all of earth will be in trouble as well (Clean Energy Ideas, n.d.). rays. This photons is transforming the electrons in the materials to conduction electrons that make the electricity (Clean Energy Ideas, n.d.). Solar panels are the materials that have the electrons which create electricity. This materials look like computer chips and can also be seen in rooftops and space engines. The photons in the rays of the sun charges the electrons in the chips and the electrons flow through the cell. This is when electricity is generated (â€Å"Solar Energy†, n.d.). Different techniques have been used to make solar power. One uses a U-shaped mirror which looks like long troughs and focuses the sunlight to an oil that can be found at the middle of the pipe. With the hot coming from the sun, the oil makes the water boil and this creates the solar power. One more technique is using mirrors which can be moved to catch the sunlight which is connected to a tower that collects the heat and connected to a receiver. Molten salt is used as the receiver for this kind of technique. Another technique uses windows with materials that absorb heat. Usually, they are placed in walls and floors, and at night, these materials give out heat that can make hot water in the house (â€Å"Solar Energy†, n.d.). Just like any form of energy source, solar power has its pros and cons. The major benefit of solar power is that it is a sustainable source of energy. Meaning it can be harvested continuously without the fear that it will run out

Comaprison Theorist Essay Example for Free

Comaprison Theorist Essay Sigmund Freud’s approach to personality would be and still is a debate within our society today. Researchers and psychologist are still observing his approach and there are still unanswered questions. One approach Freud did not use was how our society and culture would effect the person we all would become. The one thing that most Neo-Freudian’s agreed on was that early childhood experiences would have an effect on your personality development. Freud laid the path for psychologist and many would take what they learned from him and go in their own direction. Alfred Adler was one Neo-Freudian that disagreed with Freud. Their disagreement was not only professional it became personal. Adler approach was called the individual psychology. He helped us understand personality with striving for superiority, how our parents were an influence on our personalities as children and the effect of our birth order. Adler like Freud believed that your earlier years were important when it came to shaping your personality when you became and adult. One thing Adler believed is that the parent’s role would affect the child. The first thing parents should not do is give the child too much attention. By stating this Adler meant pampering. He believed that pampering would take away children’s independence. They become more dependent on people, and they don’t learn how to make their own decisions. He believed that they should be able to make mistakes and make their own decisions, because this would be good for them and they would learn to be more dependent. Another mistake  parents make stated Adler was they would not give children enough attention, which would lead to neglect. If children don’t receive enough attention they would grow up to be distant, and would not know how to be intimate or carry on a relationship. Adler was the first psychologist to mention that the order in which you were born would shape your personality. Comparison of Theorists3 Carl Jung also would leave Freud and Freud would feel betrayed by that. He took him leaving personal as well. Jung was curious with religious concepts. He would take Freud’s idea of unconscious and put his own twist to it. We as people would inherit our physical characteristics, but Jung believed we inherited unconscious psychic characterics as well. After Jung left Freud he would travel around the world and study other cultures and this is were he would base his theory on. He relied a lot on ancient mythology and Eastern religion. Jung believed that the collective unconscious is made up by something called the primordial images. These images would help people respond to our society in a different way, there called archetypes. Basically Jung would describe the collective unconscious as the concept of instincts. He also believed that every man had a feminine side and female had a masculine side. He had three archetypes that he spoke on the anima which is the feminine side of the male, and the animus is the masculine side of female. Stating this, Jung was the first psychologist to point out people would have both male and female characteristics within themselves. Another archetype he had was called the shadow. The shadow was known as the dark side that people would possess. It does not actually mean that people are evil. The main thing that Jung is known for was his focus on introversive and extroversive types. An introvert was someone who focused more inwardly, this person was not the social type and focused more on themselves. An extravert focus just the opposite their focus was outward. Jung, like Freud would stay on the topic of human behavior. Karen Horney was a female psychologist who disagreed with how Freud viewed women. Freud stated that men and women were born with different personalities. (pg 111 n.d.). Horney would disagree with that, she thought  that our social and culture played a bigger role in our  Comparison of Theorists4  personality then biology. She studied a term called neurosis, which means neurotic. Horney’s definition of neurotic is that people are trapped in a self-defeating interpersonal style. The way people interact with others prevents them from developing the social contact they unconsciously crave. (pg 112 n.d.). This will lead to a defense mechanism to help with their feeling of anxiety. Freud would say neurosis was an unconscious battle between various aspects of personality. Horney would state that it would start off in your childhood. Horney had three styles neurotics would use to avoid anxiety experiences. They were called â€Å"moving away from people†, â€Å"moving toward people†, â€Å"moving against people.† Moving away from people, this is when children would learn to just tune people out. When in a hostile environment or situation, instead of engaging with the others they would just tune the person out. Basically ignore the situation. As adults they become sheltered. They would find jobs with little interactions and they would reframe from being in a relationship or intimate. These people would become emotionless and if attached to someone or something the feeling of emptiness while a child would all return. Moving toward people, these people become very dependent on others. They yearn for affection and strive to get accepted by their parents. This yearning would temporally relive them for any anxiety they are having, but in later years they would rely on this. As adults they would have more then usual need for love and affection. They don’t want to be lonely, and believe that any relationship they are in is a relationship. They are demanding affection and don’t know how to love, they are more clingy. Moving against people, these people would rather fight. They have the urge to have power while pushing around children. These individuals believe that being aggressive and mean you can get what you can in that form. You basically take control of the matter before anyone else does. One thing that Horney debated about was Freud theory on  Comparison of Theorists5  women. Freud stated women had â€Å"penis envy†, which is the desire that every girls as to be a boy†(pg 114 n.d.). Horney disagreed and stated that men envy us women and the ability we have to bear and nurse children, this was called the â€Å"womb envy†. Horney was not stating that men were not pleased with themselves but simply stating that we all have qualities that each other admirer. Horney did point out when Freud was making his theory on woman that he was living in a time where woman were treated the way they should have been, he was living in a era where the culture would have helped his influence on the decisions he made for women. Erick Erikson would use some of Freud ideas in his theory; he would add some of his own ideas. Freud believed that the ego was between id impulses and superego demand; however Erikson believed that the ego played a bigger part. Erikson believed that the ego played a powerful, independent part of personality. (pg 106 n.d.). It would help with your identity, and your need to over come the environment. Your ego is to help you get your sense of identity. The term identity crisis comes from Erikson. You would usually find this in adolescents; they seem to not know which way they are going in life. Freud ended his personality development around six years of age, as for Erikson he said it would continue throughout a person’s life. By saying this he gave us eight stages that start from when you are a baby until you’re at an old age. The first stage is basic trust versus mistrust this stage is during infancy years, newborns have no choice but to rely on everyone around them. Autonomy versus shame and doubt is during the toddler’s years, when children want to feel powerful and independent. At the toddler stage Adler stated parents should not pamper, as for Erikson he stated they should not be overprotective at this stage. Initiative versus guilty is early childhood, children learn how to organize and they will learn to set goals and kick down and challenges that come their way. Industry versus. Comparison of Theorists6  inferiority is elementary school age years, this when children soon find out  there is more competition out their in the world. Identity versus role confusion is adolescence years, when teenagers find out who they are and what they want in life. Intimacy versus isolation is young adulthood years, when you seek for the relationship you have always longed for. Generatively versus stagnation is adulthood years, when you want to guide the next generation because you feel as though you have not done everything you want in your life. Ego integrity versus despair is old age years, when you look at your past life and smile you know you have that sense of integrity, but if you don’t you know at this time, it’s too late because time is short now. These four Neo-Freudians have their own approach on personality psychology. When reading all of their perspectives, I would agree to disagree with most. I agreed with Erikson’s approach with the eight stages, Horney was believable because I am a woman and I could relate to where she was coming with her feminine psychology approach. Jung was the more vibrant one and he dug deep into different cultures, and I disagreed with Adler’s approach with the birth order, but would agree with his perspective on how parents pampered and neglected their children. So like there are still debates and intellectual conversations about personality psychology, I would have to debate as well, because there are so many different approaches you can lean towards when it comes to this topic. FDR vs Clinton :: American America History

FDR vs Clinton The domestic policies and administrations of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and William Jefferson Clinton are in some ways similar, but in other ways very different. The two men were very domestic-oriented presidents, focusing largely on America, and not the outside world. Both Democrats, they supported Federal Government programs to aid the American People. These programs were not necessary, but the presidents felt that they would aid Americans. Roosevelt created many jobs for the unemployed. He did this with such acts as the Unemployment Relief Act, which created the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Civil Works Administration gave temporary jobs to the unemployed during an especially harsh winter, and the Works Progress Administration spent about $11 billion employing people to work on government projects. Roosevelt also provided for money to be given to states to help increase employment. This includes the Federal Relief Administration, that gave $3 million to states to pay wages for w ork projects as well as direct dole payments. The Tennessee Valley Act dammed up the Tennessee river and created jobs, inexpensive hydroelectric power, cheap nitrates, improved navigation of the river, low cost housing, reforestation, and the restoration of eroded soil. Clinton has also worked for lower unemployment rates. During the first two years of Clinton's administration, 6 million jobs were created; 7.7 million during the first 34 months. Americorps, formed to help people pay for college and job training, helped to tutor students, immunize children, and restore urban parks. Clinton's Northwest Forest Plan was contrived to provide jobs in the Northwest and preserve ancient forests at the same time. Since Clinton became president, the unemployment rate has decreased from 7% to 5.6% and the United States currently has its lowest combined rate of inflation and unemployment since the beginning of Nixon's Administration in 1968. Clinton has also continued several programs that were pioneered by Roosevelt, such as Social Security and Bank Security. Clinton's Social Security Independent Agency Act, Interstate Banking Bill, and the Community Development Banking Financial Institutions Act's roots can be traced back to Roosevelt's Social Security Act of 1935 and Glass-Steagall Banking Reform Act. Both Clinton and Roosevelt also advocated the rights of workers. Roosevelt secured the unions' right to form and to bargain with a representative of their choice with his National Labor Relations Act, and created a minimum wage, maximum hours, and limited the ages of young workers with his Fair Labor Standards Act. Early Childhood Curriculum Essay

While being in this course I have learned about the different curriculums, philosophies and theories. In this paper I will be discussing how to develop an appropriate curriculum for preschool children. This paper will include the following topics: the theories and/or philosophies of Montessori; concepts learned throughout this course, how to apply them into an early childhood classroom focusing on the understanding components to design a curriculum for a preschool classroom based on ages 3 to 5 year old children. First let’s discuss the philosophies of both Maria Montessori and Jean Piaget. Maria Montessori ideas and beliefs are embedded throughout every early childhood program and her influence on our thinking about curriculum has been profound. She was a tireless child advocate and believed that all children deserve a proper education. Montessori insisted that through proper early education, underprivileged and cognitively impaired children could be successful if they were given a chance to learn. She was one of the first to establish a preschool for poor and mentally retarded children in Rome; these preschools were called â€Å"Casa dei Bambini†, which translated in English as â€Å"Children’s House.† Dr. Montessori proposed that children that are at risk and the notion that society had a moral responsibility to devote resources to early child intervention. Our textbook states that. â€Å"Montessori embraced and expanded Froebel’s kindergarten concept; she felt that children were natural learners and should drive much of their own learning. She asserted that children should be grouped in multiage (2  ½ to 5 years) classes to allow flexibility and opportunities for peer mentoring. Montessori developed an extensive set of â€Å"didactic† materials and lessons designed to be attr active to children and used by teachers to teach specific concepts and skills. She adapted furniture to child size as a gesture of respect for the unique needs of early learners† (Jaruszewicz, 2012). I agree with her philosophy and theory, because children do need the freedom to learn at their own pace and not to be pressured to do what they see other children do. It is also important the classroom learning environment to be attractive  so that it will draw the children to be there and learn new and exciting things. In order to use the teaching method, the teachers must be trained to work with all children and understand that no one child develops the same as another. The other philosopher that I will discuss is Jean Piaget. A contemporary of both Montessori and Dewey, Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget proposed a theory of cognitive development that initiated a constructivist view of curriculum (Jaruszewicz, 2012). Piaget conducted several experiments with young children that proved that their mental concepts are learned through trial and error experiences . Young children will continue to do things that they have been told not to do, until the consequence of their actions has been reached. For example, when a parent tells their child not to stack the building blocks up too high or they will fall on them which could lead to them being hurt; the child continues to do that the same thing over and over again to see if what their parent said is true. Once the child has seen the building blocks fall over on them is when they have learned that they don’t need to do that. His work confirmed early learning as distinct from other developmental periods, implying, therefore, that materials and activities for young children should reflect the idiosyncratic way in which they think and process stimuli (Jaruszewicz, 2012). Piaget proposed that cognitive development occurs in four different stages, three of which occur during early childhood. In the sensorimotor stage, infants and toddlers process experience and begin to coordinate movement through sensory exploration. Preoperational thinking of preschoolers emerges spontaneously, as they are internally motivated to make sense o f their environment by testing ideas and theories in play and exploration with materials (Jaruszewicz, 2012). Piaget and Montessori are the main philosophies that stood out to me in this course the most. Next I will discuss the Core knowledge preschool sequence curriculum and the areas inside it. With strong focus on challenging, but appropriate content, the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence and Teacher Handbook is unique among early childhood programs. It outlines a cumulative and coherent progression of knowledge and skills in all developmental areas and integrates developmentally appropriate practices for both content and instruction. Using the core knowledge curriculum helps with creating appropriate activities that prepare the preschool age children to learn. Children are  always ready to learn; as long as the teacher understands that, each child will be eager to learn in new and exciting ways. It is important for teachers to make sure that the information that they wish to teach the children in the classroom is appropriate and fun. The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence Curriculum focuses on five different areas: Social Skills, Early Literacy skills in reading and writing, Mathematics, Science and Visual Arts. It is important for children to learn how to interact with other children their age early in their lives to develop their social skills. One of the many things I love about Montessori is that Montessori teachers see the ‘whole’ child-developmentally, academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. There is a myth out there that says simply placing children in the same room and having them do activities helps them develop social skills. I disagree. Developing social skills needs to be a value in the classroom as well as modeled by the teachers/adults who are around the children. Using manners, demonstrating what Montessori called ‘Grace and Courtesy’ and always being respectful of the child are key ingredients to helping a child develop social skills. There are several ways to help expand children’s social skills. The activity that would be used to develop social skills would be to have the children sit in a circle on the floor, pass an object around each child to take turns telling the class something about them. Whether it is there name, favorite color, parents name, how many sibling they may have, etc. When are playing together in the classroom they learn to take turns, shared things and playing with others in general helps them develop social skills. The development of language in early childhood classrooms is an umbrella for the Montessori curriculum. The teachers and parents consider activities on the shelves of the Language area as the heart of actual language learning. The techniques used in a Montessori classroom are different when it comes to teaching language and literacy. Teachers, parents, and administrators need to recognize communication as the foundation for the meaningful development of language concepts and skills. Effective communication depends on authentic relationships be tween communicative partners. Teachers have the responsibility (actually, the opportunity) to develop and expand learning relationships with young children. This is truly the ultimate opportunity to make a difference. Seen in this light, conversations with young children on  the playground, during field trips, on the way to the bathroom, in the midst of conflict resolution, during lessons, and countless other times create the context for the development of language skills. Relationships of trust are built between children and teachers and among peers. Classroom work further contributes to language concept and skill development within this context of meaningful communication. It is important to talk children especially infants constantly, so they can develop a strong sense of vocabulary. Children catch on to everything that they may hear. So it is definitely important to be cautious what language you use around children. Printed materials and images are strongly important in an early childhood classroom. These materials make the classroom attractive to children as well as make them want to learn about what those images and books mean. Phonemic awareness is part of a balanced literacy program, and can be developed in several ways during shared reading and shared writing. Shared reading and shared writing typically occur during the language arts time block, but may also occur during content-area learning. On to my favorite subject any grade level or age is mathematics. In an early childhood classroom, teaching young children mathematics somewhat easy and in some cases not so much. Getting children ages three to four year olds to learn their numbers and one to one correspondence can be a challenge, but it requires patience to teach the children the meaning of number awareness. Provide children with authentic, hands-on learning experiences-DO NOT USE WORKSHEETS. In preschool you should play to the children’s natural curiosities and look to your student’s interest to guide l esson planning. You are setting up children for a lifetime of learning and you should create excitement around what you. Also, the more hands on the activity is, the more learning styles you are engaging, and the more the child enjoys it the more they will learn and retain! Create activities that children are actively involved in learning something new, such as how to count and recognize numbers. Numbers are not the only thing that children can learn that is related to mathematics. Shapes are how to perceive and recognize them are important as well. Teaching children about shapes and how many sides each one has involves numbers as well. Mathematics and Language go together because you are using vocabulary words to decide the shapes, numbers, etc. In conclusion, this paper touched on some important factors to help develop a developmentally  appropriate curriculum for preschool/pre-K age children. It is important to provide activities for young children and make sure the environment is a positive, warm and inviting one that children will want to come to school and learn new things. In this paper I disc ussed the standards for each core knowledge area to develop an appropriate curriculum for young children. References Jaruszewicz, C. (2012). My First Experience With Politics Essay - 2323 Words

My first experience with politics was during the 2008 Presidential election. At that time I felt very strongly for Mitt Romney and was deeply saddened by his defeat. Because of this loss, I vowed to take the powers vested in me by the Constitution to make sure the US does not elect Obama, making the same mistake. He is a mistake because I consider him a failure. He has decreased the value of life for many citizens and ruined America’s healthcare system. I have become educated about current events as well as followed the political campaigns, to which I hope will be evident in the next section. Being an informed voter, I would like to talk about the issues facing our nation as well as offer a comparison of the current candidates for President, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. I will also outline the issues facing the United States which I find important and give a brief comparison between the candidates and who I agree with. My opinion of the political issues facing the United States as proposed by the candidates Police Reform Police Reform should be one of the many issues handled in the first one-hundred days of our new President’s term.
